Use this last holiday season of the constitutional democracy to stock up on as many essentials or planned purchases of imported goods as you can, especially of goods likely to be subjected to the Trump Tax (tariffs), such as home electronics, autos, lawn and garden tools, outdoor recreational gear, computers and peripherals of of all kinds, audio, home appliances and furnishings, toys, and all non-US made clothing. Make friends with other families and trade clothing for kids and do hand-me-downs. Don’t hoard goods to profiteer off them, but buy as much as you can afford to make yourself as ready as you can be to help yourself, your family, and friends and neighbors be able to refuse to buy any goods that have Trump Taxes on them after Jan 20th. After Jan 20, 2025, buy nothing if you can, or buy only at second-hand and recycling shops, charity thrift stores, local craft markets, and on Craigslist and other local Non-Facebook, Non-X channels. When your electronic games longer interest you, trade them to others for used board games and goods for outdoor activities. Learn to fix things instead of discarding and buying new. Work with your neighbors to share and trade and co-operate so you free yourself and your circle from buying anything that carries the Trump Tax. Trumponomics is likely to crash the economy anyway, so at least this way, you are traded cash for useful essentials and stocked yourself up with as many essentials as you can, and you build solidarity with your neighbors to help everyone weather the incoming Trump depression while honoring an American tradition of economic activism (think American’s refusal to buy the Brits’ Tea).
NPR - Several Democratic-led states are forming coalitions and developing plans to push back against policies they expect from the incoming administration. State leaders are making efforts to protect against what they describe as threats to democracy and constitutional norms. This comes as the GOP wins a full trifecta of power in the nation’s capital: the presidency, control of the House and a three-seat majority in the Senate.
NPR - A new group called Governors Safeguarding Democracy broadly says
they’re going to work with legal experts and advocates to tackle
challenges facing democracy. NPR’s Ryland Barton says Trump was not
mentioned on the group’s website or announcement. The group responded to
an idea floated by Trump’s incoming deputy chief of staff Stephen
Miller that National Guard units from red states could execute mass
deportations in blue states. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker called that plan unacceptable and said he wouldn’t cooperate.
