Congress strikes a deal to avert a partial government shutdown — for now

NBC - Congress has struck a bipartisan agreement to avoid a partial government shutdown this weekend. Leaders from both parties said in a statement that they have a deal on half of the spending bills that fund the government and will work to pass a short-term extension to buy more time to finish the job. A short-term funding deal must still pass Congress by Friday night to avoid a partial government shutdown this weekend. Because all 100 senators must agree to move quickly on passing legislation, that is not guaranteed.
