Newsweek -  All references to gender ideology need to be removed from a federally-funded education program within the next 60 days across 40 states and six territories, the Trump administration said in a press release on Tuesday.

The federal Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) grant will be withheld, suspended or terminated for states that do not comply, according to the release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services....

.The HHS action raised tensions between federal oversight and state education content decisions amid broader national debates over gender identity in schools.

The current administration has already targeted gender ideology, pulling funding and engaging in lawsuits with states over transgender athletes competing in sports at both the high school and collegiate levels.

.HHS, through the Administration of Children and Families (ACF), sent letters to 46 recipients—40 states and six territories, including Washington, D.C.—demanding removal of "gender ideology" from PREP educational materials within 60 days, and warned that failure to comply could result in withholding, suspension or termination of PREP funding.

Federal PREP grants support state programs on adolescent health and sex education, targeting those who are homeless, in foster care, and those who are a part of minority groups, including sexual minorities, or those living in rural areas or areas with high teen birth rates, according to the program website.
