USA FACTS
Middle-class wealth has grown, shrunk, and grown again over the
years, reaching a record $499,000 in 2022. By Q2 (April, May, and June)
of last year, the average middle-class household had $472,000 in wealth.
That's $12.5 trillion for the entire middle class, or 8% of all
household wealth.
As of 2022, average middle-class households earned between $58,000 and $96,000 annually.
Middle-class wealth is primarily tied to real estate (37.8% of
average household assets) and retirement savings (19.8%). In comparison,
higher-income households have more business equity and financial
investments.
Debt patterns also vary: households in lower-income brackets had
more credit debt, while higher-income groups had more mortgage debt.
