Housing

Katty Kay, BBC - The share of Americans in multigenerational households has more than doubled in the past few decades, according to Pew Research. And multigenerational home purchases hit an all-time high in 2024.

The writer and professor Arthur Brooks — who I interviewed for this newsletter a few months ago — recently spoke about his family's decision to move three generations of relatives into two houses that sit on the same street.

And recently, The New Yorker reported on the growing share of adult siblings who are buying houses together. In 2023, just 4% of Gen Z Americans who owned homes had bought that house with their siblings. One year later, that figure tripled to 12% — and by 2025, it jumped to 22%.
