States where seniors rely most on Social Security

Newsweek -  Many of the states which rely the most on Social Security payments were in the South and the Midwest. These are the top 10 states where senior residents rely on the monthly checks the most, with the percentage of their median income coming from the program:

Mississippi: 49.5 percent

West Virginia: 49 percent

Kentucky: 47.6 percent

Indiana: 46.4 percent

Arkansas: 46.1 percent

Louisiana: 45.6 percent

Alabama: 45.5 percent

Michigan: 45.2 percent

Oklahoma: 45 percent

Wisconsin: 44 percent
