Gaza

The Guardian The majority of those killed by Israel’s offensive in the strip have been civilians, and the overall total now exceeds 67,000. Entire families have been wiped out in a single airstrike. Sometimes, only a single individual, frequently a child, is left alive. There are also nearly 170,000 injured. In all, casualties amount to roughly 10% of Gaza’s pre-war population of 2.3 million.

The Guardian - Huge questions remain about whether Trump's 20-point plan can successfully resolve the long-term future of the Gaza Strip, with uncertainty over its directive for Hamas to disband as well as the governance of the shattered enclave...

While Hamas has agreed to participate in the hostage and prisoner exchange, it has not said it will disarm and disband — a key stipulation of Trump's proposal.

The first phase also does not address Gaza's medium and long-term future.

NBC News - Israeli Prime Minister's Office spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian told reporters that a ceasefire would take effect in Gaza "within 24 hours" of a Cabinet meeting due to take place at 5 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET).

Following that 24-hour period, a 72-hour window would open in which Hamas would release the remaining hostages.

Bedrosian said the final draft of phase one of the plan was signed in Egypt this morning.

The Guardian - Almost 55,000 children under the age of six in Gaza are estimated to be acutely malnourished, far more than have so far been identified as victims of the potentially lethal condition, a study published in the Lancet, the respected international medical periodical, has revealed.

The study, published on Wednesday, and led by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa), offers a month-by-month breakdown through much of the two-year conflict, and shows for the first time a clear link between Israeli restrictions on supplies entering Gaza and levels of malnutrition among children.
