NY Times - A White House meeting between President Trump and congressional leaders from both parties on Monday yielded no breakthroughs as the government faced a 12:01 a.m. Wednesday deadline to avert a shutdown. Vice President JD Vance said the federal government was careening toward a shutdown, blaming Democrats who he said “won’t do the right thing.” Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the minority leader, said there were still “very large differences” over health care, with Democrats demanding the reversal of Medicaid cuts Republicans enacted earlier this year. Republicans are falsely asserting that Democrats are shutting down the government to fund free health care for unauthorized immigrants.
