POGO - The Trump administration is illegally blocking funding from
reaching and benefiting your community. A nonpartisan watchdog agency
declared that the administration broke the law by holding up funds from
the bipartisan 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Congress,
not the president or his Cabinet, has sole power of the purse. The
people’s branch gets to decide how and where the people’s tax dollars
are spent. |

There is a reason our Constitution gives Congress this power. The
foundational guardrail ensures that decisions about the allocation of
precious resources are made by the people who represent and advocate for
you. And the Impoundment Control Act, passed by Congress in 1974 and
upheld by the courts since, has made it crystal clear that the president
cannot override Congress's spending decisions. |

This
is an alarming overreach from the administration — and unfortunately,
all too familiar. President Trump was impeached during his first term,
in part, for illegally impounding funds. Congress cannot let this
continue. |
