Cambridge University to stop telling exam ranks

Daily Mail, UK -  Cambridge University is set to stop telling students their exam rankings as it overhauls teaching to create a ‘healthy work-life balance’ on campus, it has emerged.

The changes are expected to be implemented in the next academic year and will mean that undergraduates will no longer be told where they rank in their cohort based on test results.

It comes after a university taskforce, set up following demands from students, claimed that Cambridge had a ‘culture of overwork’ that was negatively affecting undergraduate mental health.

University officials have reportedly voted to review ‘class lists’ as well as weekend lectures, teaching outside of an 8am-8pm window, and to consider the introduction of ‘break weeks’.

However it has been criticised by academics who argue that any ‘infantilisation’ of the university’s courses will reduce competitiveness and ‘delegitimise’ degrees.
