Tariff update

Political Wire -  “President Donald Trump said he will ‘definitely’ place new tariffs on the European Union, reiterating complaints about the U.S. trade deficit with the bloc and what he sees as insufficient EU imports of American cars and agricultural products,” Bloomberg reports.

The Guardian - Republicans on Capitol Hill have largely fallen in line with Donald Trump’s move to impose tariffs on the US’s biggest trading partners, with the notable exception of the former Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, who called it a “bad idea”.

Newsweek -  President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada have prompted anger in the country where there are growing calls for people to boycott American products....Ontario's premier Doug Ford said his province is banning American companies from provincial contracts until the tariffs are removed and has joined another premier in curbing sales of American liquor.

There have also been calls on social media for Canadians to rethink their investments in U.S. companies and their patronage of American firms ranging from McDonald's, Walmart and Microsoft.  Gary Sands, vice president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG), told Newsweek on Monday that Trump's move has already sparked an "unprecedented" demand by consumers wanting to know whether products are made in Canada or not.
