Sam Smith - The next few years look very grim but not as bad as we may think because Trump will only be president and America is much more complicated than that.
Key to a better existence is to energize our local and state institutions starting with the governments. Just as southern states and places have had an inordinate influence on our culture in the past, it is time to move that power towards the good states and towns, turning “state’s rights” into a progressive cause.
Voting back our control of Congress – even one of its houses - would be a major move.
And our businesses have a value in not being overwhelmed by Trumpesque monopolies but it also would be a good time to boost the role of cooperatives in our society. And schools – especially public ones – could make sure democracy is part if their curriculum.
In brief, it’s not just about stopping Trump from the evil he is about to curse us with but to give visibility and strength to alternatives. Trump got where he is in part because too many Americans forgot or never learned how to create a fair and decent America.
If the task seems too hard just remember the power of some non-governmental institutions like corporations and churches on American life. Trump is the problem, but we are the solution if we choose to discover it.

Trump also wants to crash the school systems because only in the ignorant darkness does fascism thrive
