Sam Smith - I'm afraid Kamala Harris has backtracked on an issue that has some significance for your editor: she no longer wants to do away with plastic straws. When I make my weekly trip to recycle and go to the grocery store, I buy lunch at McDonald's and order my Diet Coke with "no straw please." This is not an ecological choice; I just can't figure out why people prefer to drink soda with straws. One McDonald's staffer calls me "Strawless Sam." This hasn't affected my voting choice but it is still a bit of a disappointment.
