Smoking

Axios Just 11% of U.S. adults say they've smoked cigarettes in the last week, Gallup found in July. That's a historic low. In the 1950s, it was 45%, and in the 1980s, it was more than a third. A sharp decline in rates of cigarette smoking among America's young adults — once the likeliest group to smoke — is driving the trend. In the last three years, around 6% of people under 30 say they've smoked cigarettes in the past week — compared to 35% in the early 2000s.
