GB News, Britain -  In 2022 (the latest year for which data is available), there were an estimated 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths. There are reasons to be hopeful, however. You can modify your risk of the deadly disease by overhauling your lifestyle.A new study hammers this point home, revealing six lifestyle factors that account for four in 10 cancer cases and about one-half of all cancer deaths in adults 30 years old and older.

The study of Americans, published in the journal CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, found modifiable risk factors, including cigarette smoking, excess body weight, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, diet, and infections, accounted for 713,340 cancer cases and 262,120 cancer deaths in 2019.  Cigarette smoking was by far the leading risk factor, contributing to nearly 20 percent of all cancer cases and 30 percent of all cancer deaths.
