Climate

CNN - Sunday was the planet's hottest day in recorded history

Ecowatch - The climate crisis is not only having an impact on temperatures, weather and environment, it’s also affecting the length of a day, according to a new studyGlobal heating is causing polar ice to melt, which is altering how fast Earth rotates, making each day longer. It is a shift that will accelerate as long as humans continue to burn fossil fuels that produce planet-warming greenhouse gases....

The length of a day is changing by milliseconds, but it is enough to potentially interfere with technologies that depend on exact timekeeping, such as GPS navigation, financial transactions and the internet. “All the datacentres that run the internet, communications and financial transactions, they are based on precise timing. We also need a precise knowledge of time for navigation, and particularly for satellites and spacecraft,” Soja said, as reported by The Guardian
