Policing

Daily Kos -   Albuquerque, New Mexico, is one of a number of cities embracing a radical new approach to public safety—and it’s working. The city’s civilian-led safety department sends trained professionals, not police, to respond to issues like mental health crises, substance use, homelessness, and community disputes.  Albuquerque’s community-centered approach to public safety has led to fewer people experiencing mental health crises and homelessness being shot by police.
