Newsweek - Residents of three U.S. cities have been warned to expect "extreme heat" through Wednesday that is likely to affect "most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure," according to the National Weather Service. A Tuesday update from the agency forecasts "extreme" heat for Las Vegas and San Antonio and McAllen in Texas, with "major" heat warnings in place for nine cities in California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. On Thursday, there is a more than 70 percent chance that temperatures in Las Vegas will exceed 112 Fahrenheit, which would be the earliest in the year such temperatures have been recorded in the city's history.

AP News - The U.N. weather agency predicted there’s an 80% chance that average global temperatures will surpass the 1.5 Celsius-degree (2.7 degree-Fahrenheit) target laid out in the landmark Paris climate accord within the next five years.

Almost 20 beaches in Massachusetts have closed due to an excessive amount of bacteria in the water, per the state's Department of Public Health.
