Nice News - Before the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. passport applications were typically fulfilled within six to eight weeks, or two to three weeks for accelerated service. Since the health crisis, however, the Department of State has struggled to get back down to those times and the marked increase in international travel this year didn’t help matters. Some people have even had to travel out of state to areas with lighter loads so they could get their documents in time for planned trips. As of this week, though, there’s been a step in the right direction: Regular applications received on and after Monday will have wait times of eight to 11 weeks, and expedited service will take five to seven weeks. That’s a two-week improvement from earlier in 2023, the State Department said in a press release.... Even with the faster wait times, the government recommends beginning the passport application or renewal process six to nine months before any international travel, so let this serve as your reminder to go check the expiration date on your document.
