Two in five people sentenced to life without parole were 25 and under at the time of their conviction, despite irrefutable evidence that their younger age contributes to diminished capacity to comprehend the risk and consequences of their actions.

Two weeks ago today, Solitary Watch and the Unlock the Box campaign published Calculating Torture, a report showing that at least 122,840 people are in solitary confinement in U.S. prisons and jails. Ours is the first report to provide a snapshot of all individuals in solitary confinement for 22 hours or more a day in all U.S. state and federal prisons and local jails, based on the best available data. 

Employment rates for teens are expected to rise this summer from last year, according to a team of labor economists who put out an annual summer job forecast. Wage growth among the youngest workers has been steeper than for other age groups. In April, wages for those aged 16-24 were up 11.5% from last year, compared to 6.6% for those 25-54, according to data from the Atlanta Fed. Gusto, which handles payroll for about 300,000 small and midsize businesses, says the average hourly wages for teens (aged 15-19) on its platform hit $14.89 in May — up a whopping 41% since January 2020.

Architecture studio EFFEKT has completed Norway's first treetop walkway, which winds up through Hamaren Activity Park in Fyresdal and ends at a circular viewpoint. Raised 15 metres high in the air, the platform was designed with a gentle incline accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities, as well as cyclists, pushchairs and wheelchairs.
