If you're getting an electric charger for your home

ðŸ”§ Axios' Joann Muller put an EV charger in her garage, and she tells us what you need to know before you install one yourself:

  1. Hire a licensed electrician. You'll need them to determine whether your home can support the charger.
  2. You can buy a unit for $300 to $800, but the cost of hooking it up is the big unknown. The average installation runs between $526 and $1,315, HomeAdvisor says.
  3. Picking the right charger can be confusing because there are so many choices — 32 amps all the way up to 80 amps. The higher the amperage, the faster the charge, but you should know how much power your EV can accept.
