Safest and riskiest cities for driving

US News -A new study from U.S. News & World Report's 360 Reviews finds Boston to be the top city in the U.S. for safe driving, followed by New York City (No. 2) and Honolulu (No. 3).“The study findings reveal that largely populous cities, such as New York City and Boston, aren’t inherently more dangerous to drive in,” said Scott Nyerges, senior insurance editor, 360 Reviews. “Memphis is by far the riskiest U.S. city to drive in, ranking No. 1 in both fatal motor accidents per capita as well as people involved in fatal crashes per capita, and ranking No. 2 in fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.”

Study highlights include:

  • Colorado as a state ranks No. 1 for DUI arrests
  • Arizona has three cities represented among the top 10 least safe U.S. cities for driving (Tucson, Phoenix and Mesa)
  • Motor thefts are least likely in Tampa, FL; Raleigh, NC; El Paso, TX; New York City and Boston
