Florida's southwestern Gulf Coast has seen a flare-up in harmful algal blooms known as "red tides" in recent weeks, posing health risks to vacationers and harm to wildlife. It's the area's worst series of blooms since 2018, which was the most severe event in 70 years (see chart).
The average size of new apartments in 2022 was 887 square feet — a 54 square-foot drop since 10 years ago. It was also the largest year-over-year decrease, down 30 square feet. Among other factors, the drop in size can be attributed to more studios and one-bedroom apartments entering the market in 2022, reaching a historic share of 57%. Tallahassee, FL, led the nation with the largest apartments, while Seattle offered the smallest apartments. 87% - The increase between 2016 and 2021 in the number of renter households making $150,000 or more a year.

Intercept - After successfully lobbying for the rollback of new rules applied to Wall Street in the wake of the financial crisis, lobbyists for Silicon Valley Bank immediately began pressing their case further to the federal authority that insures bank deposits in the event of another crisis, according to lobbying disclosures reviewed by The Intercept. The lobbying effort managed to exempt banks the size of Silicon Valley Bank from more stringent regulations, including stress tests aimed at uncovering the type of weaknesses that led to the bank’s implosion Friday. Two of the bank’s top lobbyists previously served as senior staffers for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who himself pushed for the repeal of significant pieces of the landmark Wall Street reform legislation known as Dodd-Frank.
