Meanwhile. . . .

Millions of Americans will get less money in food stamps this month. A federal pandemic food benefit, which gave more money to SNAP recipients, ended yesterday. Even though grocery prices remain high, lower-income families may get only $6 per person each day for food. That’s less than what many experts say is necessary for a healthy diet.

The food stamp program was started because army draftees were flunking physicals due to malnutrition. Now the army can not get enough enlistees. Instead of trying to make the army bigger spend more money on nutrition and public health

The termination of the SNAP emergency allotment program will also impact local grocery stores, who benefited from the extra SNAP income The potential loss of hundreds of dollars per month -- per family -- is significant.
