The shooting during the Portland protests last summer did not need to be fatal. When the cops arrived they stopped a street medic that was working on stopping the bleeding, and the cops forced the street medic away and they stood as a wall letting the injured man bleed out before the ambulance arrived. The police got the optics they wanted, a right winger killed.
The killing of the shooter was an extrajudicial execution by police, the witnesses are clear the cops did not announce themselves or follow rules for serving a warrant. They came in guns blazing.
If the police declare a riot, generally that means the cops are getting out tear gas and rubber bullets because somebody threw an empty water bottle.
In Portland some protests are still going on. From the looks of it, most of these protestors are desperate people with little to lose, a few militants, people who just want to watch the world burn, a few right wingers who want to vandalize, and police informants and agent provocateurs. The PPB appears to want the protests and destruction, because the people of Portland voted for a citizen police review board with teeth. If the police let the current small group of protestors do the large amount of vandalism that is going on in Portland, it's because they are punishing the voters of Portland for daring to vote for a citizen police review board with teeth. The city of Portland needs to get this new review board up and running asap, there are a lot of bad cops that need to be purged.
