Farming goes vertical

How? They make the claim, but do not enumerate how. In order for this to be true, 95% of the irrigation that currently occurs must either run off, evaporate or be soaked up by soil that has no crop root in it. I find this to be neigh on impossible.

How much more sunlight does it need? 100%. If grown indoors under LED lamps, you now have to power 100$ of the light needed to grow that food. Where is that energy coming from? Mules eating only CO2 on treadmills?

This seems mostly science fiction, not science. Especially when you understand that current hoop houses still have problems with insect pests and predation from fungal, bacterial and viral entities. So, they will still be spraying chemicals to combat those traditional pressures.

All this really speaks to is allying fears of running out of arable land so that the population can ever increase. After all, without more peoples each year to consume widgets, the economy stagnates...
