Shortage of workers

Axios - The U.S. unemployment rate is so low that some cities and states have turned into "worker deserts" — places where companies can't find people to hire,

Across the country, more than 1 million more jobs are available than there are people to fill them.

In New Hampshire, unemployment is close to a 30-year low:

In Florida, companies are "bringing back retirees ... increasing the use of interns and apprenticeships," wrote Mark Vitner, a Wells Fargo economist.

He also noted how heavily the state relies on immigration to refuel its working-age population.

What's next: In some states critical to the 2020 election, business leaders are pushing for more immigration to create bigger labor pools.

That's another reason we need socialism: to have a more fair and rational workforce for the things that need to be done, such as repair infrastructure, grow food, care for children and disabled, local medical clinics et al. People can be induced into necessary work with adequate pay and working conditions, those now unable can be supported to serve in some way in the workforce, and all citizens can do stints at mental and manual work. This can be part of daily occupations or e.g.,a three year draft for farm work (a better diet will be even more labor-intensive, but you can grow food almost anywhere with sufficient labor--an underused source of energy). Currently there are plenty of artists, musicians, and stand up comedians, all of which we can do at home ourselves. Also a huge army in financial and insurance services. We don't have to end immigration, but we should end the exploitation of immigrants.
