Daily Mail, UK -A UN report has revealed India as the most notable country successfully lifting itself out of poverty. The report found 271 million people in India were alleviated from what's known as 'multidimensional poverty' in a ten-year period between 2005-06 and 2015-16.
Multidimensional poverty is defined not just by income but a whole range of factors, including poor health, lack of clean water, poor quality of work and the threat of violence.
Of the 101 countries studied – 31 low income, 68 middle income and two high income – 1.3 billion people were found to be 'multidimensionally poor'.
