Sam Smith - The Democratic presidential race is complicated and there's plenty of time to shake it down. But for starters, I would note:
- The best president might be Bernie Sanders, but at a time when progress is increasingly being defined in generational terms the time for folks like Sanders and Joe Biden may be over. As a 81-year old journalist just four years older than Sanders I can assure you that age does make a difference. But if the nation swells for him, I'll be there, too.
- Remember the primary rule of thumb for politics: You're not choosing a religion or its leader, you are choosing a battlefield. Your choice is going to be imperfect, but if he or she can beat Trump or his replacement you can do a lot of forgiving.
- Hillary Clinton should be at the bottom of the list. Her true history is bad and she not only is a huckster, but - unlike her husband - is lousy one and so she doesn't even get away with it.
- Elizabeth Warren might make a great president but she's too serious to get there. You not only need smarts to win but some comfortable soul as well.
- Harris, Brown and O'Rourke are at the top of my list of newbie possibilities. Brown and O'Rourke are especially good because they don't come from traditionally liberal states.
- If the women's vote becomes dominant, then Harris is the one.
As I said those are just notes for starters

And you don't even mention the one politician who ever made a substantive promise and kept it: Dennis Kucinich.
Sanders is ineffectual - for all his tough talk, he's a total wimp..in the face of the Democratic Party (Hillary) machine that outright robbed him in broad daylight (with the willing aid of the media)...he whiffed - just when he needed to be the most bold. What a letdown!
Hillary is beneath even mentioning...
Warren is a total FRAUD, and as we learned from the genetic test debacle - an idiot to boot.
Harris is a snarky, joyless drone...even when she smiles you can see the venom in her eyes. Another calculating Hillary-like snake with zero warmth.
Robert Francis ["BETO"} O'Rourke makes John Edwards look like the definition of gravitas...another FRAUD that changes his name to sound Hispanic...gimme a break. Another white man culturally appropriating to appeal to Hispanics...funny how the PC police don't care about that - Or Warren's bogus "Native American" claim.
Biden is too old and has lost it mentally. He also wimped out last time, too afraid of the Clinton machine. He had a real chance to beat Trump.
Brown is the only one of that list that is plausible...smart enough to stay lower profile and from Ohio, an important electoral state.
After the Trump impeachment follies turn gloomy for the Dems and the real corruption of the DOJ/FBI/Obama/Hillary Russian collusion fail and setup of Trump are exposed...it will probably be an outsider candidate running as anti-establishment clean up. Think Jimmy Carter in 1976. Perhaps Brown or John Tester.
