Independent, UK - One of Donald Trump's closest advisers has warned a bloody civil war would erupt if the US President was impeached.
Roger Stone predicted "an insurrection like you've never seen" if politicians sought to remove the US leader from the White House and claimed any politician who voted to topple him "would be endangering their own life".

Assumes Trump is personally charismatic and Pence isn't. The media made Trump and it can make Pence. Trump will survive in the senate as Clinton did if he can show obedience. This is the way our weak-President system works. All presidents have been hostages after FDR or forced out of office. Not just the term limit amendment but the constitutional system has been redesigned to prevent another FDR. Notice there aren't term limits on the other branches. As Bruce Ackerman teaches, the constitution is what you can get away with, which makes Dallas a constitutional-level precedent. Trump will stay only if he can show he would still be useful to the senators and generals who will take control of the oval office under Pence. Presidents get second terms by promising their patrons not to exercise the powers of the office. If Trump cannot acquiesce and gets impeached he would possibly run in 2020 but it would be like OJ's second trial where he loses.
Assassinations of Congressional members like Huey Long, Hale Boggs, probably Wellstone are usually planned operations. I don't think we see people in the streets defending Trump when there is no self interest to do so. Just the opposite is more likely if Trump tries again to take away health care, etc. The theme that Trump is an economic nationalist has produced nothing that could be defended. Insurrections are about defending what is to be stolen, as with health care the insurrection is against Trump.
