North Korea update
The way you get out of something like the North Korea crisis is to move incrementally. The best way to do this is to shift from public macho threats to private discussions. Thus, this sentence from a story in the Daily Sun in Britain is important: "Pyongyang would never place its nuclear programme on the negotiating table
as long as the United States maintained a hostile policy against the North, the
government statement reported by KCNA said." But what else could be on the negotiating table if the US were willing to move in that direction? And what might result from it, including eventual discussions of the nuclear program? We will never know until we move towards mutual talks, not mutual threats.
