Socially diverse groups — made up of people from different races, ethnicities,
genders, and sexual orientations — tend to be more innovative than homogeneous groups. “Simply interacting with individuals who are different forces group
members to prepare better, to anticipate alternative viewpoints, and to
expect that reaching consensus will take effort,” sums up Scientific American.
The publication recently republished a 2014 report on how diversity is essential for scientific advancement and creativity.

Philadelphia’s civil-rights agency slammed 11 local gay bars for failing to create a “’safe space’ for all LGBTQ people,” saying that they have instead created “preferable environments for white, cisgender male patrons. It also required the owners and employees of the 11 bars named to attend a mandatory anti-discrimination course, which include implicit bias training discussing unintentional racism and sexism.
