Be interesting to know what kind of "sample" those 1,226 professors represent, eg out of how many queried, etc. Or, how many law professors hold an opposite point of view. No axe to grind with these questions, but the impact of more information would either be affirming, or neutralizing, of the purported point being made.

Read the piece! They don't represent any kind of sample at all. They are legal scholars, 1,226 of them, who have signed a petition calling on Drumpf to come to his senses. (Maybe not.) The piece has an author and a legitimate publication source. You'll know how many law professors support Sessions and why when the right wing organizes around him. Until then you can ruminate on leading scholars at Harvard, Yale and Stanford along with 1,223 others going out of their way publicly to oppose Sessions. Better sharpen that axe. It needs it.

Gathering together 1,226 lawyers...
Any idea how many jokes were created based on more or less that premise?
Usually to end with some punch line like "it's a good start", or "their lips were moving."

One use of a sharpened axe is to swing it at dead trees (wood ready to burn without having to wait). Thanks for your noting and responding. In this "bloggy bottom world" words are under stress, so few used for so much agenda. The agenda generally suffers serious attrition.
