Washington's Metro subway system, which the Washington Post loved from the start,is in such a fiscal mess that the paper now wants the federal government to take it over. For four decades, the Progressive Review and its predecessor, the DC Gazette, pointed out the numerous flaws in Metro subway plan (bad enough that no city has repeated it) -urging instead an emphasis on light rail and exclusive bus lanes. We have more recently gone with the latter because as planners finally rediscovered light rail, the builders of it started jacking their prices in a big way.
