Yogi got to the essence of it. To say you're in a slump is to add a dimension of unreality, since a slump isn't real in the way a ball is. To simply get that what you intended, to hit the ball, is not happening, gives an opportunity to deal with simply hitting the ball. Which is all that matters in the next at bat. A slump is not anything that can be addressed without recourse to superstition. Yogi was also a very capable manager.
