Among Rick Perrys' more interesting beliefs: Legisltures should elect senators, not voters; federal education, clean air, Social Security and Medicare laws are unconstitutional

Perry has some pretty stupid and obtuse notions about how life works, but that is really OK because he has that right to be as idiotic as possible. What is astounding about all of this is that the citizens of Texas seemed to have no problem with any of it and continued to elect and reelect the moron---now that's some really frightful stuff. Then again, this writer lives in another state in the Great Heartland and is here to attest that there doesn't seem to be a single neighbor near or far who wouldn't fit in quite comfortably in mainstream Texas.
Dear Lord, we are in trouble.

Which is how in fact it worked until 1913. Until that year, we had the right to elect only ONE member of the federal government, our nominal "representative".
Now we have the right to elect (or more honestly, ratify) three out of the total of about 1500 officeholders with federal power.
We should be so furious that we illuminate major cities with our rage alone.
