Needless to say that this is labor intensive. I hope that robotics goes in the direction of helping families like this. Robots and big business ultimately don't mix.

Robotics and small intensive gardening don't mix. This family makes $20,000 a year off their farm. Which is great money for the size of their farm, but it would hardly pay for the cost of a robot and it's running and upkeep costs. By doing this work by hand, the family is also gaining health, fitness, and personal satisfaction, something sitting on their butts and letting robots attempt to do it would not offer. Though sorting out all the robot caused disasters might give them something to do other than sit around all day.

Gardening requires a mix of skills, knowledge, wisdom, and intuition. Robots might be able to manage the first two on that list, but they won't do so well with the second two.
