The war on drugs continues big time

Take Part - America’s decades-long war on drugs seems to be finally winding down, with voters having legalized marijuana in four states and lawmakers across the country rolling back harsh sentencing laws. But it’s not over for the thousands of men and women still serving long sentences in state and federal prisons for nonviolent drug offenses. Nationwide, an estimated half-million people are behind bars for drug crimes. More than 2,500 of them are serving life without parole, though their offenses did not involve weapons or direct harm to anyone, according to a recent report by the American Civil Liberties Union.
