Time - The
world’s largest democracy, India, is in turmoil. After Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s government raised unfounded speculation about “illegal”
Bangladeshi voters, an overhaul of India’s electoral registration system
stripped 130 million names from the voter rolls. Youth-led protests broke out
across the country in response, and in the capital of Delhi, swarms of
paramilitary personnel were deployed, thousands of protesters were detained,
and internet access was restricted.
