Bloomberg - The European Union floated Canada becoming its first associate member. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen offered the invitation during her state of the union address with Canada’s Mark Carney in attendance, saying the group needs to “re-imagine” its partnerships. The Canadian prime minister warned earlier this year that the “rules-based international order” was effectively dead and has repeatedly pushed for so-called middle powers to band together.
