Trump's immigrant policy will cut health facility jobs for thousands of Haitians

Newsworthy News -  As over 300,000 Haitians lose legal status at once, the United States is about to test whether it can keep hospitals, nursing homes, and hotels running after pushing out a huge share of the workers who make everyday life possible.

Hundreds of thousands of Haitians are losing Temporary Protected Status and work permits, exposing deep dependence on immigrant labor in healthcare and hospitality.

Reports say tens of thousands of Haitian workers staff nursing homes, home care, hospitals, and hotels, in jobs that were already hard to fill before this change.

….President Trump’s move to end Haiti’s Temporary Protected Status cuts off legal status and work permits for more than 300,000 Haitians who have lived and worked in the United States for years. Temporary Protected Status was designed as a short-term shield from danger in home countries, but in practice many Haitians built stable lives and steady careers under it. A Supreme Court ruling cleared the way for the termination, and the Department of Homeland Security set hard deadlines when their Employment Authorization Documents expire, turning long-time legal workers into people at risk of arrest or deportation almost overnight.
