More than 3.2 million cases are stuck in the immigration court backlog, creating enormous pressure to move faster. Most of the new judges come from law-enforcement, prosecutorial, or military backgrounds aligned with tougher immigration enforcement. Critics warn that turbocharging speed risks turning “immigration courts” into “deportation courts,” where due process becomes an afterthought.
