Putin's invasion had more plausibility if you factor in the rise of the Ukrainian far-Right (even though Putin is himself a Russian nationalist and lover of Russia at maximal power) and the end of Ukraine being buddy-buddy with Russia in the Yanukovych years thanks to the Maidan protests. It's a war where the Ukrainian neo-Nazis fight the Russian neo-Nazis, not a leftwing unit in sight. Meanwhile, Trump's regime says they stole Maduro for drug smuggling; Trump himself bleats repeatedly about oil.
