MLK Day has changed

Axios - Across government: Trump removed an MLK bust from the Oval Office last summer. After a sweeping anti-DEI executive order last year, federal departments, including the Defense Intelligence Agency, paused all activities and events related to MLK Day.
  • National parks: Free entry will now fall on Trump's birthday — not MLK Day or Juneteenth. The administration is also moving to purge park exhibits of MLK-related materials, Kristen Brengel of the National Parks Conservation Association tells Axios.
  • Schools: Educators report a sharper crackdown in Trump's second term, with GOP lawmakers in 44 states advancing anti-critical race theory measures and at least 12 states passing anti-DEI laws after Trump's directives, according to a Chronicle of Higher Education analysis.
  •  Higher education: Colleges are also pulling back, with events like an annual MLK dinner at Indiana University Indianapolis canceled this year, Inside Higher Ed reported.  Keep reading.
