Donald Trump

NY Times -     President Trump unleashed a xenophobic tirade against Somali immigrants on Tuesday, calling them “garbage” he does not want in the United States as he tried to refocus public attention on his anti-immigration themes. “These are people who do nothing but complain,” Mr. Trump said at the tail-end of a cabinet meeting at the White House. “They complain, and from where they came from, they got nothing.”

    “When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but bitch, we don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it,” Mr. Trump added as Vice President JD Vance banged the table in encouragement. Even for a president who has frequently made derogatory comments about immigrants, the rant against Somalis was an alarming use of vulgarity from the White House against an entire community.

NY Times - Marvin Dunn, a Florida historian and activist, became so angry this fall after a public college quietly handed over a prime downtown property for President Trump’s future library that he sued. A judge sided with him, ruling in October that the trustees of Miami Dade College had failed to provide reasonable public notice before their vote.

The college appealed, saying it had done nothing wrong. But faced with the prospect of a protracted and expensive trial, the trustees reconsidered. They met again on Tuesday and redid their vote, this time after hearing for more than three hours from over 70 people, most of them in opposition.

The outcome was the same: The seven trustees voted unanimously to convey the 2.63-acre property to the state, which then gave it to the nonprofit foundation raising money for Mr. Trump’s presidential library. The foundation is controlled by the Trump family and has indicated that it expects to raise $50 million this year.

But Dr. Dunn, a former professor who looks younger than his 85 years and who has long sought to preserve Florida history, vowed to keep fighting the library in court.

Robert Hubbell - Trump slept through significant portions of the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, including when Secretary of State Marco Rubio was speaking directly to Trump from three feet away. For Trump, the naps represented his peak performance at the meeting. It was downhill from there. Among many lies, slurs, and gaffes, Trump said the following:

    The “affordability crisis” is a “scam” created by Democrats, and “no one knows what the word means.”

    Somali immigrants are “garbage,” and “I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you…their country is no good for a reason . . . and [our country] could go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country.”

    Prescription drug prices have dropped 500–900% [Note: this is a mathematical impossibility];

    “Every boat that you see get blown up, we save 25,000, on average, lives;” [Another mathematical impossibility; the US has destroyed 21 boats, which would imply 525,000 lives “saved” in 3 months per Trump’s math, but the US experienced 87,000 fentanyl deaths last year], and

    “I didn’t know about the second strike [on the alleged drug boat] . . . . I wasn’t involved in it. . . . because I rely on Pete.”

MS NOW -   Much has been made of the fact that after President Donald Trump posted a social media screed about immigrants in which he called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “seriously retarded.” A Republican state senator in Indiana, Mike Bohacek, said he was offended by the president’s slur and that he would oppose redistricting efforts.,,, Few other Republicans have spoken up against Trump invoking the word long used as a pejorative for people with disabilities.

Axios - President Trump made nearly one post per minute over a three-hour Truth Social spree late yesterday....Trump made 158 posts and reposts from 9 p.m. ET to midnight, by Axios' count.  Go deeper.
