A U.S. map shows which holiday, if any, is observed on the second Monday of October as a state holiday. 17 states observe Columbus Day, five states and Washington, D.C., observe Indigenous Peoples Day, three observe both days.

The second Monday in October — Oct. 13 this year — is a federal holiday officially known as Columbus Day. A small, but increasing, number of states and cities now mark it as Indigenous Peoples Day instead.. Keep reading.
