JD Vance

Lee Kamps - I grew up in Ohio and I have also lived and worked in the southern Appalachians. I currently live in a suburb of Cleveland, so I am very familiar with J D Vance and where he comes from. I grew up in a middle class suburb of Cleveland that is not radically different than the city where J D Vance grew up. I saw the type of family dysfunction that J D Vance experienced when he was a child when I worked as a caseworker at a county welfare office in Ohio during the 1970s.

I also lived and worked in the southern Appalachians where I managed a field office for a large insurance company during the 1980s My work took me into all those hollers in the mountains where I got to know many families like his family. So, I somewhat understand the type of culture he came from.

Don’t ever sell J D Vance short. No one completes a four year college degree in two and a half years without a lot of smarts and drive. Then he earned a full scholarship to the Yale Law School and finished his law degree there. He also wrote a best selling book without having it ghost written. No one overcomes such a dysfunctional family life to succeed like he has already done unless they have a lot of smarts and drive.

He is smart as a whip, and much smarter than Donald Trump. When he was at the bottom of a crowded field of Republican candidates for an open senate seat in 2022, he sold his soul to Donald Trump to get his endorsement. He got it and won the general election against a better known and more experienced Democratic candidate. He is becoming a great politician who knows who to suck up to and who to dismiss.

So, now he is the Vice President and one heartbeat from the presidency and the President is a 79 year old man. If he becomes President because of Trump’s death or other means before 2027, he will become the youngest man to become President in our nation’s history.

This doesn’t mean that I would vote for him or support him, just that I respect him. Do not underestimate him. Should he become President, he would be a radically different President than Donald Trump. In addition, no one serves four years as a United States Marine without having a lot of internal discipline.
