Newsweek - Millions of people in Southern California have been advised to keep their windows shut and limit time spent outdoors after air-quality alerts were issued for the area due to harmful levels of particle pollution from windblown dust.
An air-quality alert published by the National Weather Service (NWS) warned that particle pollution can penetrate deep into the lungs, leading to serious health issues such as asthma attacks, heart and lung disease symptoms, and a higher risk of respiratory infections.
While particle pollution can affect everyone, certain groups are more vulnerable, including individuals with heart or lung conditions, older adults, pregnant people, children, and those who spend extended time outdoors, the NWS said.
