FLYING

USA Today -  A Real ID seal on all state-issued identification documents will soon be a must, especially if you plan on traveling this upcoming summer and beyond. And it's definitely not too early to head over to your state's driver's licensing agency to get your documents in order.

Anyone interested in flying has until May 7, 2025, to obtain a state-issued identification card or driver's license with a Real ID seal, per the Department of Homeland Security. (Unless you have a valid passport.)

Any state-issued identification document without the seal fails to adhere to the "minimum security standards" set by The Real ID Act of 2005, which prevents travelers from flying domestically and from entering certain federal facilities.

The requirement was originally set to take effect in 2020 but was pushed back until May 2025 over "backlogged transactions" at Motor Vehicle Division offices nationwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
