AP News - An intense wildfire could reach a town in western Canada this week, fire experts and officials warned, based on forecasts of winds that are fueling the out-of-control blaze. More than 4,700 people have evacuated, and fire crews and emergency workers were preparing for a “last stand” if the fire advances into the town of Fort Nelson, said Rob Fraser, mayor of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality. In 2023, Canada experienced a record number of wildfires that caused choking smoke in parts of the U.S. and forced more than 235,000 Canadians to evacuate their communities.  Read more.

Washington Post -  Zombie fires from last year’s historic season have roared back to life. At least 500,000 acres have burned, leading to air quality alerts in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Severe storms this week could bring damaging winds, destructive hail, tornadoes and flooding along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida.
